The Cedar School will offer a full high school curriculum of math courses from Algebra through Calculus. Students will be placed in an appropriate math class based on formal and informal pre-assessments, and a recommendation from their previous school.
All math classes will take a multisensory approach to teaching, using visuals, color-coding, music and kinesthetic strategies for helping students learn and understand concepts. Students will have access to calculators, and will be allowed to move ahead conceptually regardless of their challenges with math facts. Math facts and automaticity will be reviewed and encouraged in all classes, however, and topics will be reviewed and revisited to ensure comprehension. All classes in the math program will develop the students’ critical and intuitive thinking skills, and relate mathematics to the real world.
